Sassybear’s Sunday 7!

Something I Thought about:

Taxes and finances. We really want to move to Connecticut when we retire, but we would be taxed on our pensions and Social Security. New York does not tax either. Do we stay where we are subject to less taxes, or do we live someplace we’d be happier? Hmmmmm.

Something I Saw:

The original movie “The Crow” (based on a comic book character) and its two sequels. (There’s a 4th movie we will watch this week.) All in preparation for the remake being released in August this year. I can’t believe I’ve never watched these films before. The concept is interesting (wrongful death victims are redirected by a mystical core to seek vengeance on their murderers.)

Something I Heard:

A wonderful new song “Guilty as Sin” by Chris Housman. (Thanks to Fearsome Beard for sending it to me.)

Something I Tasted:

Honey Whiskey with Ginger Tonic. It was lovely.

Something I Learned:

I’m more capable than I give myself credit for. I repaired a few minor things around the house that I initially deemed beyond my skill set. I wonder what else I could do if I tried.

Something I Accomplished:

My first cocktail party in years. 12 people were invited, 8 attended. I was feeling nostalgic for our party hosting days, so decided to throw caution to the wind and reach out to the few friends who have remained in our social circle. It was a fun evening and I may consider doing it again.

Something I Created:

A few new dishes for dinner: A chickpea summer salad with chicken; Chicken and Avocado wraps; and Greek style stuffed chicken breast served with mashed cauliflower. All were delicious.

    • There are definitely other factors, but the tax issue is the biggest one for us. We would definitely save on travel, but the cost of living is similar if not slightly higher in CT. We will be doing a lot of exploration, research, and number crunching before we make any final decisions.

  1. Money is nice. So is being happy where you live.

You probably don’t use one to have one broken, but never try to fix a curling iron. They expand when opened up and will never got back together.

    Parties are fun. Have one.

    • lol. Yes I definitely don’t have or use a curling iron. I would never attempt to fix anything that uses electricity. Same goes for plumbing. Just structural things like painting and repairs and door knobs and things like that.

  2. House repairs! How butch.

I hope the party went well and everybody stayed safe.

It seems to me that so much of your current life consists of enduring unpleasantness for some larger goal. In some sense this is laudable (I fail the marshmallow test every single day) but when this ordeal of working at a job you dislike is over I hope you are able to rebalance so you can suffer less and have contentment every day of the week. That may involve moving or may not, but if I have two wishes for you they would be that you and your loved ones stay healthy, and that you are able to enjoy life instead of suffering through it.

    • That is a very touching sentiment and I really appreciate it Lurky. I sincerely and wholeheartedly wish that for you and all of the people I know and care about. Life is too short and has too many struggles not to find ways to be happy and enjoy it. I totally accept that my work is a necessary evil for me to live the way I want as much as possible. Hopefully the end justifies the means.

  3. I miss gatherings like that. I hope to attend one with friends someday.

I love that you have more than one thing to list in the last category. That alone tells me you had a good week!
