Whadaweek

Holy guacamole! I ain’t posted in 6 days! This week dragged and sped by at the same time! WTF?!?!?

Well, I owe you a recap of my FABULOUS weekend in CT with the BFJ, but it’s been a tough week and we’re enjoying a quiet night at home, so I’m just going to leave you with my symbolic sandwich type. This is so spot on!

  1. I always associate this ‘snack’ with Elvis P. It’s a concoction that has never caught on with us Brits. Is it really sweet and savoury in the same sandwich? – or am I (or are we here) mistaking the idea? If that’s what it is the very idea sounds yukkity appalling – but then I’ve never (dared) try it!

    • I don’t know that I’d call it Sweet n Savory. both peanut butter and jelly are sweet. The peanut butter is more like a taste or spread that tastes like peanuts. The jelly comes in a variety of flavors and it’s literally a jelly. Most American kids are raised on this and most college students and struggling young adults practically live on it because it’s one of the most expensive meals. I have no doubt there are people in the US who do not like peanut butter and/or jelly, and/or the combination. I never thought of it as a cultural food but I guess it may be.

  2. I’ve never thought of peanut butter as being ‘sweet’, and all my life I’ve eaten a lot – loving it, of course. As for what you call ‘jelly’, I always assume it’s what we term as ‘jam’ – with flavours such as strawberry, apricot, plum etc, but always ‘sweet’. Maybe there’s some disparity between us of meanings of words here, but to resolve it what I really need is for me to try one of YOUR genuine ‘pnut butter & jelly’ sarnies! (Btw; In case you’re not familiar with the word, ‘sarny’ is a word we use as slang for sandwich). 😉

    • We have Jelly and Jam…flavors are similar, but jelly is more a viscous jello like texture and consistency. Jam (here) is more like a spread flu fruit paste.

(I gathered sarny was a version of sandwich.)
