We lost power around 400 today, just as I ended my work day. There was a torrential downpour and then – POOF – everything shut off. We threw open the blinds and curtains, enjoyed a couple hours of daylight, and grilled swordfish and Brussels sprouts on the grill outside for dinner.
It finally became dark enough that it was time to light the candles and start a fire in the fireplace. I’ll open a bottle of red wine, curl up with the dogs in blankets on the sofa, listen to music on one of our devices, and try to remember why losing power is so awful.
Losing power sometimes is not awful. It can be nice, as you have described. And a bottle of wine and a roaring fireplace makes all the difference.

Not bad for a short time.

No. It worried me after a couple hours, but came back on after we went to bed.

Please switch to battery powered candles.

I’m assuming for safety? We never leave a candle unattended. But we’ve already decided we need some battery powered lights (beyond flashlights.) But I do so love an occasional candle.

I love lighting candles. I liked power outages as it gave me an excuse to light many.

I hate that this happened, but it’s good that it happened when the temperatures aren’t so hot. I had a rolling blackout in August, and it hit right at sunset when the humidity is at its worst. It didn’t take long for my apartment to feel like an oven.

In my opinion the power grid in the northeast is one of the most fragile in existence. All it takes is a little wind and rain to knock it out.
