We were doing some outside cleaning and freshening up this weekend. Our house has two front entrances. The secondary one has two large magnolia bushes in front of it, so we don’t use it to enter or exit the house. (Side note: we’re having the bushes removed as soon as we’re able to have the porch repaired and repainted.)
When I went outside to sweep it off and wipe it down, I noticed some weeds and grass on top of the porch light.
on closer inspection, it turned out to be a nest:
and a quick snap of my phone camera revealed its an active nest.
The last thing I want to do is be a home wrecker. I guess I can finish cleaning that porch later this summer.
Idle Eyes and a Dormy 
We had a robin’s nest in the same spot this spring, on our porch light beside the front door. But we use the front door all the time. The robin was not happy about all the activity. Clint built a nesting box and hung it farther away from the door after the existing nest was empty. I set a couple of smallish rocks on top of the light housing to discourage further nest building. Good luck with your robin babies! Our nest had 4 eggs. All 4 hatched, but only one survived to fledgling age.

I am glad you were careful. I had a robin’s nest in a bush right next to the front porch. Stupid teenage robin.

You can (almost) always tell a robin’s nest, because the outside looks really sloppy. Any random-looking mass of … stuff … might prove to be the work of a nesting robin.
