Today was an unusual day for us. We had invited some family (1 Aunt, 1 Mother, and 4 Cousins) over for a wine and cheese social. We haven’t hosted a proper social gathering in a long time, and rarely spend time with my family, so this was a pretty big deal.
After a quick breakfast, we headed to the liquor store, then hit the grocery store, then headed home to clean our asses off (and by asses, I mean house) before our guests arrived.
It was an unusually warm day for March, so Harvey spent some time on the porch, basking in the sunlight on his puppy chez while we flitted about trying to remove the filthy film of daily living from our home.

There was dusting, sweeping, mopping, and wiping for several hours, which tends to freak out the dogs so, after sunning himself, Harvey joined Rita on the couch to stay out of the way of loud vacuums and dusting daddies.

Once the house cleaning was done, we hopped in the shower to scrub our fannies, dressed and prepped for the party.
First we set the table with cheeses, crackers, fruits, vegetables, and chocolates

Then we set up the wine bar

It was a very successful night, and we all had a good time chatting, sipping, and snacking. I look forward to hosting another family gathering in the future (something I never thought I’d say.) I also realized that I miss hosting social events. It’s a lot of work, but a lot of fun. Too bad we’ve become estranged from most of our friends. Maybe we should host a blogger gathering. Unfortunately, we live in a lame town, so there’d be no incentive for people to travel here, aside from fabulous puppies and some hard-working hosts.
*Cuz Satyrs drank wine.
I’d come to your home! looks like a lovely party setup.

I don’t think the family appreciated it but it was fun to do. (And expensive.) Next time, we’ll stick to chips and dips for them and save the fancier wine and cheese parties for our of town friends 🙂

Takes one to know one, from what I’ve seen of your entertaining on your blog. I wish I had half the baking/cooking skills you two have.

And I’m sure that all the arriving guests got welcoming face-licks – from the doggies, I mean. It’s compulsory!

They were the hit of the party and soaked up lots of attention.

That looks like it was a lot of fun. If traveling didn’t cost so much I’d show up. Oh, wait. I’d have to have time off from work to do that too. 😦
