Variety is the spice of life (and marriages)

After being married for almost 20 years, and together for 22, Jeffrey and I hit a marital slump. Life had become predictable, boring, uneventful…bland. But we had invested way too much time and effort building our life together to just let it all crumble and blow away so, in a moment of desperation, we did the only thing we could think of…

…we registered for Green Chef. Yup, as I’m sure you all suspected, Jeffrey and I faced the crisis of bland and boring meals head on and decided to give one of the many on line meal prep services a chance. We chose Chef Green because you can choose a meal plan specifically for a gluten allergy. You have an option of 6 meals a week to choose from. We are getting 3 meals a week, dinner for two. All ingredients come packaged and iced in insulated boxes, and take about 30 minutes to prep and cook. They come with nifty ingredient, prep, and cooking instruction cards.

We made our first meal Tuesday night, and it was fantastic: Salmon with Red Pepper sauce

While my final, finished, plated dinner didn’t look quite as fabulous as the picture on the recipe card, it tasted amazing!

Tonight, we made our second meal: Korean Fried Rice

I diced the veggies a little too small, but, again, despite our less than impressive plating technique, the meal was delicious.

So, Green Chef is two for two and gets double thumbs up from us so far. Tomorrow we make meal number 3…I can’t remember what it is, but it has bacon, so it’s going to be delicious no matter what! I feel like a real chef with all my fancy-schmancy ingredients, and the recipes are so easy to follow.  I am really excited about this and look forward to receiving and cooking more meals.

I think we might just make it another 20 years with the help of Green Chef!

(If not, we can always consider adding a third to our relationship!)

  1. HA HA HA HA!!! I love that huge bear between you two.
The meal delivery service sounds really good. I’m glad you can get gluten free meals without the effort of figuring out what’s what. Congrats.

  2. Cooking is fabulous, and I’m glad you two are doing this. Yesterday, I was going to make a simple dish with mixed veggies, rice and diced steak… except I took a bunch of spice I normally use to make chili with and seasoned the beef with them. It turned out dee-licious.
