1.) What does music mean to you?
Music is a big part of my life. I enjoyed performing (choruses and bands and musical community theater) through the first 3 decades of my life. Now I only listen (although I’ll occasionally pull out the trombone and remind myself I’m not any good). I enjoy most everything, from Current Pop to Classical and everywhere in-between. Music is essential to any celebration, soothing in times of sadness, and motivating when working out, cleaning house, or any of a myriad of projects. I often spend vast amounts of time trying to find the perfect song for every situation. I use music to tell the people I love how I feel about them, and most car trips are spent playing DJ and singing at the top of my lungs. Few things get me as emotional or motivated as a good song. If you ever listened to my music play lists, you’d undoubtedly think I was insane – I have the most eclectic collection of tunes.
2.) What’s your first music-related memory?
I had a Teddy Bear (Panda Bear colors) that played a tune when you wound up the key in the back. I no longer remember the song, but I still miss that bear.
3.) What was the first album you purchased yourself?
“Desert Moon,” a solo album by Dennis DeYoung. When I heard that song on the radio for the first time, I fell in love with it. I had just started working my first part time job and had my own money to spend, so I bussed down to the local “mall” and purchased it from a record store. I fell in love with the whole album, and listened to it, on a turn table, over and over again until I knew every word of every song. I think I was just as excited buying the CD version when it became available.
4.) What’s the latest music you purchased?
“Coal Miner’s Daughter” (Both Loretta Lynn’s Album and the Movie Soundtrack with Cissy Spacek.) Whenever I get a song stuck in my head, I have to play it, and I’ll buy it if I don’t have it or can’t find it otherwise. I used to own this album a long time and remember liking several songs on it, so one of the songs popped into my head and I had to have it (and hear it) again.
5.) What’s the last song you listened to? (Be Honest)
“Any Dream Will Do” from the soundtrack of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat” (one of my favorite musicals). It was playing on the Broadway channel, on Sirius XM, this morning, on my way to work. You can hear it and see the lyrics here:
