I was shocked to discover, this past weekend, that Jim had never heard of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Not shocked that he had not read it…after all, he doesn’t enjoy science fiction… but he had actually never heard of it. At all. Ever.
Oh my stars and garters!
I guess I just (mistakenly) assumed that this is one of those things everyone’s heard of, whether they’ve read it or not. Personally, I love it. I’ve read all 6 books, sat through the 1981 BBC TV Series, and wasn’t completely horrified by the 2005 Movie adaptation.
I was telling Jeffrey tonight that Jim had never heard of it, and may have decided to read it, so I was thinking of reading it again. Jeffrey suggested we watch the movie again, as well, so that’s what we’re doing tonight.
As soon as I get my towel.
Six books – I’ve read Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Restaurant at the End of the Universe, Life the Universe and Everything, So Long And Thanks for All the Fish, Mostly Harmless, and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective agency plus The Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul.
And I reread on occasion. Adams wa a brilliant writer.

Clearly then, I’m in good company. I agree, he was a fantastic writer and I really enjoy reading the books.

But if you want purist British sci fi… it has to be Blake’s Seven.

Like truthspew, I’ve read and re-read Adams collection multiple times. And did you know: he was a writer on Doctor Who back in the day?
If you haven’t read his two Dirk Gently books, I HIGHLY recommend them.
