This was me, earlier, enjoying a quiet morning on the porch at Breen Acres while the hubby slept in and the puppy played in the yard.
Although I had no great plans to celebrate my birthday this year, it wound up being a weekend of fairly spontaneous festivities that made it feel like I celebrated for three days straight. I have seen so many friends, gotten so many gifts, cards and birthday wishes, and had so many wonderful moments indulging all the senses: taste, touch, smell, sight and sound that have reminded me how wonderful life can be when you have the time and opportunity to indulge in all of its splendors. Without asking for it, I was inundated with attention and wishes from so many people that I had to really wonder what I had done to deserve it.
I start a new year of my life with a renewed vigor to spend more time doing the things I want to and can, and less time fretting about the things I can’t. I want to draw more, play music more, crochet more, work out more and spend even more time with the people I love. The summer is shaping up to be a string of visitations from people I have not seen in a long time and some I have never seen before (in person.) [and we’re not all booked yet, so don’t hesitate to let me know if you’d like to come for a visit].
We may not get to go on a great vacation or get away much, if at all, this summer, but we have a wonderful new home to entertain in, a beautiful new dog to play with and love, and plans to do so many exciting things in our new home that it’s hard to be too bummed about not getting to the places we want to get to….yet.
In some ways, I may not be doing as well as I thought I would be at this point in my life but, in some ways, I’m doing even better than I could ever have imagined.
