Jim’s Pic A Day May: 4

I took this picture yesterday on my lunch walk. The Ringling Brother’s Circus is in town and they herded the elephants out for show for some public advertisement.

I hated it and felt sorry for the elephants.

I don’t like circuses. I don’t like stealing wild animals from their natural habitat and forcing them to perform for people’s entertainment by methods that are often painful.

It’s cruel. It’s uncalled for. And it’s a terrible statement about humanity that so many of us pay and laugh to watch this type of thing.

It ruined my day.

  1. We get it with our zoos…So many now have natural habitats for their animals ( still not the best option, but still). I won’t give any circus my money.

Totally with you on this, S/b – and Anne Marie too. A ghastly practice – long overdue for consignment to history as illustrative of less caring, unenlightened times.
But, as with so many undesirable customs, as long as there’s profit in it the welfare of the poor creatures is secondary – if, indeed, it’s there at all.

I don’t like the circus either; wrong for every reason.
