Tonight was our last night with Java before she heads off to parts unknown. We took her to Sake, our favorite Sushi restaurant, then headed over to Target to walk off dinner and indulge in consumerism. Before we went in, Java graciously posed with me on the big red Target ball.

We bought the makings for Sundaes and the Blu-ray of “Oz The Great and Powerful”, which she had not seen, but we had and loved. Once home and comfy, we enjoyed movie night and homemade sundaes at Breen Acres.

It’s been a great visit and I hope Java enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having her.

We hauled Java to a local independent movie theater to see “Man of Steel” in 3-D this afternoon. She was well behaved and we did not get asked to leave the theater for any reason, so we were able to stay and watch the film in its entirety.

I enjoyed the movie. You would be hard pressed to be a person attracted to men and not find Henry Cavill pleasing to look at. But he also did a great job of selling himself as both a lonely, lost, powerful alien and a humble farm boy. The rest of the cast was well placed, although Amy Adams would not have been my choice for Lois Lane. Besides, there are certain comic book canons I just can’t disregard, and a Brunette Lois is one of them. Otherwise, I didn’t agitate over it.

The story of Krypton was re-imagined nicely and Russell Crowe did well enough as Jor-El. I liked Zod and the other Kryptonians and Christopher Meloni is always a pleasure to see.

The story was solid and exciting with nice moments of humanity and tenderness woven throughout. Plenty of groundwork and foundation laid for the whos, whys and hows, with enough action and adventure to satisfy the fanboys.

As both a comic book geek and a moviegoer, I enjoyed it and look forward to a sequel, if one is intended.

And it has wiped the awful taste of Superman Returns from my mind forever!

We took Java to a local street fair this morning. Apparently, she found an inanimate, silent statue more engaging than the rest of us. This was actually one of a series of Uncle Sam themed statues in downtown Troy ( Troy, NY being the birthplace of THE Uncle Sam, USA Icon).

Tonight, we’ve surrounded her with gay men, saturated her with alcohol, and are about to engage in a very provocative game of “Cards Against Humanity.”

Side note to Superman: I’m sorry for whatever way we’ve tainted Java. On the plus side, we’ve taught her a few new tricks. No need to thank us. *evil grin*

Sometimes I leave the house a little early before work, park a block from my carpool co-workers house and sit in the car for about 10 minutes, waiting for the official pick up time, sipping coffee, listening to music and playing words with friends and scrabble on my iPhone.

Sometimes, that’s the best 10 minutes of my day.

I’m fucking pissed.

I can’t really complain that I’m working and socializing so much I don’t have time for all the other stuff. Having a job is good. Having friends is great. But, I do wish there was more time in the day, or that I had the energy I once did to do more in the time I DO have. I miss sharing exciting things and giving proper nods to those who have made my life exciting and fun. I don’t want to slight anyone (Joe, Mark, Ron, Jim, Jeffrey, Michael, etc.) but I have to choose between writing about my life or living it and I think we all know which I am choosing currently. But I can’t seem to (nor do I want to) walk away from blogging totally, so I’ll continue to post what I can, when I can until something gives or changes. Here are a few pictures to give you a peek at what I’ve been up to the last few weeks, a visual reminder to myself that I have wonderful people in my life and they are worth the time I devote to them:
