Santa came early…and his name is Gary!

Six days ago, I put out a call for help locating a stocking to match two we had bought previously,  but have been unable to find more of.

Several blogger friends responded and did their best to find one in their area, to no avail.

Just when all seemed lost, I got an a comment from an heretofore unknown-to-me blog follower, Gary.

“Just wanted to let you know I went to Michael’s today in Brandon Florida and they have your Christmas stocking. They actually had two,…”

He gave me his e-mail address and offered to purchase the stockings for me and mail them to me if I’d send him my address. I was beside myself with glee. Both because someone had found this elusive stocking, but also because someone I didn’t even know would go out of their way for me like this. To say I was touched is an understatement. I swapped some e-mails with Gary and gave him the go ahead and necessary info to mail them to me.

I have waited patiently for the stockings to arrive and was disappointed when they did not arrive on the target date of Friday, 11/23. Being the worst-case-scenario man that I am, I worried that the stockings got lost in the mail, or got delivered to the wrong house.

Today, while decorating the house, I waited anxiously for the mail delivery, in hopes that the stockings would just arrive a day late. Well past the time our mail usually arrives, I checked our mailbox to discover the mail had been delivered but, again, no stockings.

I was SO bummed.

However, mere minutes after I checked the mailbox, the mail truck pulled up and a handsome mail person came to my front door with a package in hand.  Apparently, the mail I had found was from the day before.

I teared up as I opened the box and pulled the matching stockings out. Gary found my stockings and had mailed them as promised.

I wish I could adequately convey what this means to me or how important it was that I get these stockings. Gary has truly helped to make this a very special holiday at Breen Acres.

Gary, thank you so much for your kindness and efforts. You have touched my heart and I will never forget what you did for me. On behalf of myself and my family, thank you so much. I promise you I will pay it forward and, if the opportunity ever comes, I will return the favor. My word is my bond. And consider yourself officially invited to stay at Breen Acres, should you ever find yourself out this way.

So, I raise my proverbial glass…

To random acts of kindness.

To helping others.

To Gary.

Thank you.

A thousand times, thank you!

Stories like this remind me that when we write blogs we share ourselves with others, which in turn prompts some of them to share themselves with us, in whatever ways they choose. Thank you for continuing to share yourself, and thanks to Gary for doing the same.
